Why Japanese Complete?

We use data-driven techniques to give you the most bang for your language learning buck and language learning attention span. Everything has been developed from the Most Frequent pieces of language first. Particles, Verbs, and Kanji.

One thing we found out in our research was that many studies on effective methods have been done, and people learn nouns (names of people, places, things) naturally as time goes on. By far the hardest thing to master in Japanese is grammar and kanji. So we created a platform where you learn Japanese grammar first, so you understand it intuitively, so you start to think in Japanese.

We’re very proud of our creation so far, and we’re pushing the envelope on language learning with each new addition. The curriculum has over 30 chapters available for you to dive into and the quizzes challenge your understanding of Particles, Verbs, and Kanji.

We use Kanji in English Context to teach you kanji in a way that finally makes sense: kanji mask letters in active words.

Example: To le学rn kanji you n要要d a really str強ng method.

学: learn
要: need; also means “in brief”
強: strong

In this way, you learn Japanese kanji much like how Japanese people are exposed to it their whole lives: contextually.

Japanese Complete is designed from the ground up to bring you up to 90% comprehension in Japanese. This is based on research you can find in the Balanced Corpus for Contemporary Written Japanese, and kanji frequency analysis.

I personally requested the BCCJW team to provide me with the most frequent kanji and most frequent glyphs, so it’s unlikely other platforms are using this info as wisely at the moment. Eventually, it would be wonderful if everyone was teaching languages this way.

When you spend twenty minutes studying Japanese with us, it’s gonna be a great use of time, and if you spend twenty minutes every day for a week, it’s gonna be an excellent use of time. You learn the most frequent things first so hypothetically you throw on a Japanese Netflix show and turn on the subtitles — you’re gonna start recognizing glyphs in the subtitles right away. It’s really amazing. I have seen this firsthand with some of our students, they start recognizing things right away. It’s mindblowing. But it works. It works because it’s based on a sound method, the method of teaching the most frequent things first. And in descending order of frequency.

Learners from various countries have tested out our platform and they tend to catch on to our approach: give you an instinctive, reflexive ability to understand the Japanese language. And not just a cursory or temporary understanding, but one that sticks with you for a very long time, optimistically your whole life.

Of course, you still have to immerse yourself, you still have to practice, you still have to sing the song of Japanese if you want to be really really good. But if you’re gonna be really really good, you might as well have the most intelligent tools available. You might as well do it in a way that supports your longterm learning.

The issue with existing textbooks and platforms is that none of them provide a way beyond the Intermediate Plateau. This is the plateau after roughly 2 or 3 years of study where students kinda just marinade in the lagoon of lackadaisical language brandishing. The sword of language dulls in the sludge of wandering. There isn’t a clear path forward, and you either need to find more prestigious and more challenging schools and programs to enroll into, or you need something that can carry you all the way to mastery.

With that in mind, we developed (and are continuing to develop) Japanese Complete so you can have an escalator to mastery. Not just a couple of years for the basics and intermediate stuff and then “good luck!” and a kiss out the door. No, we want you to make it all the way to fluent, to exceptionally talented at Japanese.

So we break things down thoroughly, interestingly, and we offer lots of memorization help, mnemonic devices, images, we work hard at making it interesting so you can recall kanji via their mnemonic bridges and finally, one day, the bridge of mnemonics is gone, and you’re able to leap to a meaning.

And by the way, if you are already a subscriber, and you use the above link to get a subscription, I will adjust it so you are paying the new price. For those who are able to pay the higher prices from before, we really appreciate you supporting our work, it means a lot, and has enabled our work over the several years we have been online.

はけ out.
